Yoanne Wissa is on Arsenal’s shortlist of potential targets as the Gunners target attacking reinforcements in January.
Wissa has started the season in terrific form for Brentford and has scored seven times in eight Premier League appearances for the Bees. Only four players have outscored the DR Congo international and Arsenal are reportedly plotting a potential move for the forward.
Mikel Arteta is desperate to add another option to his frontline and Football Transfers are reporting that Wissa is viewed as an option to provide potency to the North Londoners.
Wissa boasts best goal-per-minute ratio in the Premier League in 2024/25
No player in the Premier League can better his goal-per-minute ratio of a goal every 81.14 minutes, a return that places the 28-year-old ahead of Erling Haaland.
Only Haaland (18) has scored more non-penalty goals than Wissa (15) in the Premier League in 2024, despite the latter starting just 18 games for Brentford.
Thomas Frank praised the player after his brace against Bournemouth last weekend, with Wissa having stepped up since the sale of Ivan Toney in the summer.
“I’m very happy, I think he’s better as a nine and I think he’s developed fantastically. His overall game with his link up, his hold up, his work ethic and two great goals was very good.
“I think Ivan was a fantastic player for us but I know that when people leave the club others have opportunities to shine. I know the level of Wissa and Bryan (Mbeumo).
“I know when Ivan was out last season, Bryan and Wissa scored a lot of goals. With that knowledge I knew we wouldn’t lack goals.
“Both of his goals were good (Wissa). He sniffed out the first goal and headed it in, and the last one, it was perfect with composure and great technique to score.”
Wissa will have 18 months remaining on his Brentford contract in January and the Bees could be prepared to do business for a reasonable fee.
Arsenal remain interested in signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, though any deal for the Swedish striker will likely have to wait until the summer window.
