Roberto Firmino could emerge as a transfer target for Arsenal should the forward confirm an exit from Al Ahli.

Firmino’s future in Saudi Arabia is up in the air after he was left out of the club’s 25-player squad for the Saudi Pro League.

The 33-year-old was omitted from the squad following the €50m signing of Galeno from FC Porto in January. Saudi sides are permitted to register 10 foreign players, with Firmino excluded to free room for Galeno.

On the decision, Al Ahli manager  Matthias Jaissle said: “It was a difficult decision for the club and based on the rules.

“We appreciate him and he dealt with it professionally. He’s still one of our leaders.”

Firmino is still eligible to play in the Asian Champions League but his omission from the league squad has raised the prospect of an exit. Should his contract in Saudi Arabia be terminated, GIVEMESPORT are reporting Arsenal could make an approach.

The Gunners lack a recognised option at centre-forward following injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Firmino scored 111 goals in 362 appearances during a decorated career at Liverpool, before his move to Saudi Arabia in 2023. He has netted 18 goals in 59 games for Al Ahli since his transfer to the Middle East.

As a potential free agent, Arsenal could register Firmino in their squad outside of the transfer window.
