Arsenal have made an ‘official’ bid for Italy’s Euro 2020 star Manuel Locatelli, according to the midfielder’s club Sassuolo.
Locatelli has starred during Italy’s run to the quarter-finals with Roberto Mancini’s side having been arguably the tournament’s most impressive side so far, with the 23-year-old scoring twice during the 3-0 group stage victory against Switzerland.
Arsenal are keen to reinforce their midfield options this summer and Sassuolo CEO, Giovanni Carnevali, has now revealed an official offer has been submitted by the north London side, though the Gunners face strong competition from Juventus for the Italy international.
“Arsenal have made an official bid for Locatelli,” Carnevali told Sky Italia. “They’re pushing hard to sign Manuel and it’s an important bid… we will see.
“Juventus also want Locatelli and we have a special relationship with them. A new meeting has been scheduled with Juve.”
Locatelli began his career with AC Milan before moving to Sassuolo on an initial loan deal, the midfielder having since scored seven goals in 99 appearances across three seasons with the Serie A side.
Arsenal’s offer indicates strong interest and a desire to beat the competition to his signature, though Juventus remain favourites for his signing as the Bianconeri look to rebuild under returning manager Max Allegri.
