Arsenal look to tie influential skipper Odegaard down until 2030

Arsenal are set to hand Martin Odegaard a new long-term contract as the club look to secure the midfielder’s future until 2030.

Odegaard has been in outstanding form this season as the Gunners have made an unexpected challenge for the Premier League title, with Mikel Arteta’s side eight points clear at the top of the division following Sunday’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

The Norway international has scored ten league goals and laid on a further six assists, revelling in his role as Arsenal’s chief creator and club captain.

Arsenal are keen to tie down the long-term future of several stars and remain in negotiations with Bukayo Saka, Granit Xhaka and William Saliba over new deals, before attentions will turn to Odegaard’s future.

The 24-year-old signed a four-year contract when arriving from Real Madrid in 2021, but Football Transfers are reporting that Odegaard is in line for a significant extension. The north Londoners are hoping to agree a new deal that will tie the midfielder’s future to the Emirates until 2030.

Arsenal’s win over Palace last weekend made it six straight league wins for the Gunners and Odegaard admits he is beginning to dream of title success.

“Yeah, you can always dream,” Odegaard told talkSPORT.

“It’s been my dream since I was a baby, so of course you can dream. But the main thing is to stay calm, to keep working hard and to keep pushing every day to make sure that we get better every day.

“We are in a good position, so we want to enjoy this, and the connection with the fans, within the team, everyone is so together now. So we just have to keep going the same way and keep pushing every day to get better and to stay where we are.”
