Arsenal, Leicester, and Villa set to battle it out for Celtic striker Edouard

Three Premier League sides are set to battle it out for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, the Frenchman seemingly set to leave the Scottish Premiership side in the summer.

The 23-year-old has hit an impressive 83 goals in just 165 games in all competitions since joining the club, initially on loan, from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and is the current leading scorer in Scotland’s top tier.

The forward has played an integral part in helping the Hoops to three successive league titles, as well as two Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups in that time, although it looks as if his time could be coming to an end in Glasgow.

The current campaign has been hugely disappointing for the defending champions, having fallen a huge 15 points adrift of Old Firm rivals Rangers in the title race and set to miss out on winning a historic 10th league title in succession.

Celtic also struggled in Europe to finish bottom of their Europa League group, their recent woeful form culminating in the resignation of manager Neil Lennon last month.

Now without a permanent manager in charge, Celtic are unlikely to be able to hold on to their prize asset, the Leicester Mercury reporting that Arsenal, Aston Villa and Leicester City are all keen on making a move for Edouard in the summer.

The one-time Toulouse man currently has just less than 18 months remaining on his existing contract, with that deal set to expire in June 2022 and no real sign of an extension.

With the risk of losing him for free next year, Celtic are likely to want to cash in this summer, with a fee of around ยฃ20m likely to be the asking price, despite the club having wanted double that figure for him last year.

As for the interested parties, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers previously worked with Edouard at the Scottish club and could be in the market for a long-term replacement to the prolific Jamie Vardy, while Villa’s reliance on Ollie Watkins may see them bring in a new striking addition, particularly if they secure European football next season.

With the future of Alexandre Lacazette still up in the air, the Gunners are also on the hunt for a new man up top and have been heavily linked with the Celtic man in recent seasons.

The player will no doubt have plenty of options should he opt to depart this summer, with Serie A side AS Roma also a potential suitor, the Italian club seeking a replacement for the veteran Edin Dzeko.
