Arsenal are plotting a shock summer move to sign Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian international is available for a cut-price fee of £25m this summer, after Spurs triggered a 12-month extension of his contract having failed to agree terms on a new deal.
That extension included a release clause of £25m which is effective at the end of the current campaign, and according to TalkSport Arsenal are now said to be planning a move to sign Alderweireld from their North London rivals.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United, with Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjer keen to strengthen his defensive options, whilst Premier League rivals Chelsea are also believed to have expressed an interest.
Alderweireld has established himself as one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League during four seasons at Tottenham, with summer interest set to be high in the former Ajax and Atletico Madrid defender.
Should Alderweireld complete a shock move to the Emirates, he would be the first player to directly cross the North London divide since William Gallas moved from Arsenal to Tottenham in 2010.
