Arsenal are reportedly anticipating an approach from Barcelona for captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of the transfer deadline this week.
The Spanish giants are desperately seeking attacking reinforcements this month following a knee injury to Luis Suarez, the Uruguayan international set for an extended period on the sidelines and is a major doubt to feature again this season after undergoing surgery.
Barcelona are thought to be considering several options in the coming days and are believed to hold an interest in Aubameyang, with the Telegraph reporting that Arsenal are ‘expecting’ to receive an inquiry into his availability ahead of the closure of the winter window on Friday night.
Mikel Arteta’s side will be unlikely to want to lose the services of their top scorer so late in the window, Aubameyang having established himself as a key figure at the Emirates since his £56m move from Borussia Dortmund two years ago, scoring 57 goals in just 91 appearances and being named as club captain earlier this season.
Should, as expected, the Gunners reject the approach from Barcelona, the La Liga champions will turn their focus towards Valencia’s Rodrigo Moreno as an alternative, with their divisional rivals reportedly open to the exit of the Spain international.
The Catalan side have also been linked with Monaco forward Wissam Ben-Yedder.
