Arsenal ‘confident’ of extending Ceballos loan if season is extended into July

Arsenal are ‘confident’ of extending Dani Ceballos’ loan spell from Real Madrid if the season is extended into July.

The Spanish international is due to return to his parent club at the end of June after arriving on a season-long loan deal last summer, though the uncertainty of the Premier League season amid the coronavirus pandemic means the league season may be extended into the summer months.

English football is currently suspended until April 30 at the very earliest as the country bids to combat the spread of the virus, with Premier League clubs set to meet early next month to discuss possible outcomes for the season, including a best-case scenario of resuming football in May and completing the season by June 30 – with matches likely to be played behind closed doors.

The extended season has led to uncertain situations surrounding player contracts and loans, with several leading stars out-of-contract at the start of the July, including loan players such as Ceballos.

According to the Evening Standard, however, Arsenal remain relaxed about the midfielder’s situation and are ‘confident’ Real Madrid will have no objection to extending the 23-year-old’s deal until the season can be completed.

The Spaniard initially struggled to win favour under Mikel Arteta after an injury-hit spell over the festive period, but returned to the side in recent weeks and impressed as the north London side secured three consecutive league wins prior to the suspension of the Premier League.

Ceballos has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners so far this season, scoring once and providing a further two assists.
