Arsenal are close to announcing a contract extension for Bukayo Saka as the club look to secure the long-term future of the highly-rated youngster.
The teenager has been arguably the biggest positive of an otherwise disappointing season for Arsenal, cementing himself as a regular in the first-team at the Emirates and thriving in a number of positions including on either flank and at left-back.
Saka’s current contract is set to expire next summer and his rapid rise has seen him tentatively linked with a host of clubs, including newly crowned champions Liverpool, and the Gunners have now moved to tie up a player regarded amongst the most promising in the Premier League at present.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal are set to announce a new long-term deal for Saka as early as ‘this week’, the 18-year-old’s show of commitment a major boost to the north London side as they look to rebuild under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal are keen to reward the player following his pleasing progress throughout the current campaign, the academy graduate amongst a host of home-grown stars – including the likes of Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah – to have stepped up this season.
There has, however, been no breakthrough in negotiations with leading scorer and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, another player who could potentially leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
The Gabon international has been linked with moves to the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain of late and Arsenal will be keen to resolve his long term future quickly as they bid to build a side capable of returning to the Champions League.
