Unai Emery collected his first three points as Arsenal manager today when his side beat London rivals West Ham United 3-1 at the Emirates.
However, the former Sevilla and PSG coach’s maiden Gunners victory was somewhat overshadowed by reports that star playmaker Mesut Ozil had been excluded from the Arsenal matchday squad due to a training ground bust-up between the pair.
But speaking after the game Emery insisted that Ozil’s absence was purely down to the player being sick:
“Yeah he was ill and yesterday we decided with the doctor and with him that he would not play,” Emery told the BBC.
“Today he is here and with the team also because he feels better today but he is not here now because he was sick yesterday.”
