Mesut Ozil was sensationally dropped from Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over West Ham today after a training ground bust-up with Unai Emery according to reports.
It was initially reported Ozil’s absence was due to an illness, with some claiming that he is suffering from influenza.
However, ESPN are reporting that the 29-year-old had a training ground bust-up with Gunner’s boss Unai Emery during the week, with the player storming out of training following the argument.
It has been a difficult few months for Ozil, who was widely slammed for his performances for Germany during this summer’s World Cup, which ultimately lead him to retire from international duty altogether.
He hasn’t started the new Premier League season in the best of form either, being substituted after just 68 minutes against last weekend against Chelsea after failing to impress at Stamford Bridge.
However, speaking after the game against West Ham, Unai Emery insisted that Ozil was just ill:
“Yeah he was ill and yesterday we decided with the doctor and with him that he would not play. Today he is here and with the team also because he feels better today but he is not here now because he was sick yesterday.”
