Arsenal and Barcelona have joined the race for Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.
Despite becoming a key figure since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival at the club, the Spaniard is yet to sign a new deal at Old Trafford and will become a free agent on June 30.
Herrera signed for Manchester United in a £29m deal from Athletic Bilbao in 2014 and has since gone on to make almost 200 appearances for the club.
The 29-year-old is believed to be keen to extend his stay in Manchester, though the club and the player’s representatives remain some way apart in contract negotiations.
The Spanish international’s contract situation has alerted several of Europe’s top clubs, with ESPN reporting that Arsenal and Barcelona have now joined a list of clubs including Juventus, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain who are monitoring the situation.
United have already agreed new contracts with the likes of Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Anthony Martial, and following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis fans will hope to see the club agree new terms with Herrera.
