Carlo Ancelotti reckons the ‘unpredictable’ nature of the Premier League season could throw up a surprise title winner.
The opening months of the 2020/21 campaign have proven a fascinating watch with a whole host of shock results and surprises, a welcome change from the title processions that have seen Manchester City and later Liverpool dominate in recent campaigns.
Just five points currently separates the top eight sides as we enter a congested festive period, with the likes of Leicester, Southampton and West Ham all currently stationed with the Premier League’s top six.
Everton are amongst a number of club’s pushing towards the top of the division, and Toffees’ manager Ancelotti has praised the unpredictability of the season’s opening months.
The Italian believes the competitive nature of the current campaign could even lead to a surprise champions, referencing Leicester’s shock triumph during the 2015/16 season.
“It is the beauty of this sport. It is unpredictable, so things like Leicester winning the title can happen,” Ancelotti told a press conference ahead of his side’s trip to Leicester tomorrow.
“It’s more difficult than 20 years ago because the financial impact affects this, but sometimes it’s good to see a small team win the Premier League.
“I am sure it will be an unpredictable season. Every game is really difficult, really complicated, there’s lots of surprises.
“It is difficult to say who is going to win. The table is really compact and fortunately, Everton is there. It is good for us.”
