‘Where we want to be’ – Ancelotti reflects on a ‘good week’ in Everton’s quest for Europe

Carlo Ancelotti has reflected on a ‘good week’ for Everton as the club boosted their push for European football with vital victories over both Chelsea and Leicester.

Everton moved up to fifth in the Premier League with an impressive 2-0 victory at Leicester on Wednesday night, goals from Richarlison and Mason Holgate securing three points at the King Power Stadium for the visitors.

The victory followed last weekend’s 1-0 win over Chelsea and ensured back-to-back clean sheets for Ancelotti’s side, having gone 10 fixtures without a shut-out since beating Tottenham on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Ancelotti has praised his side’s defensive showings over the past week and says the Toffees will take confidence from securing consecutive victories against direct competitors for continental football, insisting Everton are where they ‘want to be’ as they push for a place in Europe.

“It’s been a good week. We’ve found consistency defensively and that was the reason for these two results,” Ancelotti told his post match press conference.

“It keeps us with a lot of confidence, a lot of ambition and a lot of motivation. The season is long but at the moment it’s good.

“We are now where we want to be, to fight for a position in Europe. If the season finished today we’d be in European competition. We still have to fight but the spirit in the team is good.”
