Roma are in talks with Manchester United over a deal to sign Alexis Sanchez on a season-long loan.
Sanchez has enjoyed a nightmare spell at Old Trafford since joining from Arsenal in January 2018, the Chile forward scoring just three league goals since his high-profile switch from their Premier League rivals.
The 30-year-old’s future at the club has looked uncertain, with Sanchez having looked unlikely to force his way into manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans and his record-breaking £500,000-a-week contract putting off potential suitors.
According to the Telegraph, Roma have now approached United over a loan deal, however, the club would have to subsidise a substantial portion of Sanchez’s wages.
The Italian side are looking to add to their attacking options as they bid to improve following a disappointing season, the club missing out on Champions League qualification after finishing sixth in Serie A last term.
Sanchez previously spent time in Italy with Udinese, scoring 20 goals in 95 league appearances before his departure to Barcelona in 2011.
The transfer window closed for Premier League clubs on Thursday, but teams from abroad can still buy from England until the end of the month.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had indicated he expected Sanchez to remain at Old Trafford, though the club could sanction the exit of the former Barcelona star with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial ahead of him in the pecking order.
