Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has rejected the chance to join Manchester United.
The 19-year-old is one of the most sought after young talents in Europe, having led the Dutch side to the brink of the Champions League final this season.
The centre-back has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Juventus and Barcelona, though De Ligt is believed to have rejected the chance to move to Old Trafford in a £60m deal.
According to the Daily Star United were willing to offer the Dutchman a five-year contract worth a staggering £250,000-a-week, a deal which would make De Ligt the highest-paid teenager in world football.
Despite the offer, De Ligt is believed to have rejected the chance to move to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, with the club not the attractive proposition they once were.
The teenager is believed to favour a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona once he decides to leave Ajax, with the defender likely to have his choice from Europe’s biggest sides.
