AC Milan head to the MAPEI Stadium on Sunday for their latest Serie A fixture against Sassuolo, hoping a victory will lift them into the division’s top four.

The Rossoneri are still without a league defeat this season. They occupy fifth place on 11 points, having recorded three victories and two draws. Ahead of the international break, Rúben Amorim’s side ended a short run of three matches without a win in all competitions by beating Lecce 3-0 with ease. Although their overall Serie A form has been solid, Milan will want to improve their results away from home after drawing successive league games on the road against Juventus and Lazio.

AC Milan team news

Amorim has several selection issues to manage, particularly in wide areas, with a demanding October schedule approaching. The biggest setback concerns Alexis Saelemaekers, who suffered an ankle injury in training and will be out for a minimum of four months. He joins reserve goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano on the treatment table.

Milan also have a concern at left-back, where Pervis Estupiñán picked up a knee sprain while representing his country during the international window. Although he is making progress in his recovery, he is highly unlikely to feature, which should open the door for young Davide Bartesaghi to start in that position.

From a tactical standpoint, Amorim is likely to use his favoured 3-4-2-1 system. Gonçalo Ramos is expected to spearhead the Milan attack after an excellent international break with Portugal. Christian Pulisic and Diego Moreira are set to provide creative support behind him, while Luka Modrić and Adrien Rabiot are expected to sit at the base of midfield.

AC Milan predicted lineup

Possible AC Milan starting XI: Maignan; Gila, De Winter, Pavlovic; Chukwueze, Modric, Rabiot, Bartesaghi; Pulisic, Moreira; Ramos
