AC Milan are set to host Hungarian side Ferencváros at San Siro on Thursday for the fourth matchday of their UEFA Europa League campaign.
Milan have been unpredictable lately, mixing impressive results in Serie A with difficult performances in Europe. Rúben Amorim’s squad arrive in good spirits after an emphatic 3-1 win over city rivals Inter in the Derby della Madonnina. Still, their last five games show how uneven they have been: they beat Udinese 2-0 in the league, but also suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Bournemouth and a turbulent 4-2 home loss to Bologna.
AC Milan team news
Milan come into this European fixture with major selection problems, meaning Amorim will likely make several changes. The side are worn down after the demanding 3-1 derby win against Inter.
Goalkeeper Mike Maignan is unavailable through suspension after being sent off with a straight red card on matchday three. With him out, 20-year-old academy goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani is expected to make his first European appearance in goal.
Milan’s injury list is also extensive, with six important senior players confirmed unavailable. Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia, Samuel Chukwueze, Alexis Saelemaekers, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and reserve goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano are all out.
As a result, Amorim is expected to give opportunities to younger players, with Davide Bartesaghi, Alphadjo Cisse, and Omari Hutchinson tipped for uncommon starting roles to bring energy to a tired team.
