Ross Barkley's Tottenham transfer in doubt

Ross Barkley’s proposed move to Tottenham is in due to the midfielders wage demands and Everton’s asking price.

The England international has just one-year left on his current at Goodison Park, and has so far failed to agree a new deal, prompting speculation he will be leaving his boyhood club this summer.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is known to be interested, but have been put off by Everton’s £50m valuation. According to the Metro, considering he does just have the single year remaining on his current deal, value him closer to just £15m!

Not only is the asking price an issue for the North London club, but so are the players personal terms.

According to the Mirror, Barkley is asking for £150,000-a-week, a figure which would make the 23-year-old the highest paid player at the club by a significant distance.

Spurs have a very strict wage structure, with double golden boot winner Harry Kane, as well as Hugo Lloris only earning around £120,000-a-week.

The report claims that the clubs are expected to to reach a compromised agreement regarding the transfer fee, but the player himself will also need to lower his financial expectations.

Barkley has been left out of Everton’s pre-season trip to the Netherlands and Belgium due to a reported injury.
