Rumours have circulated in recent days that PSG are in for a sensational deal for Barcelona superstar Neymar. The deal is worth €222million, and the player is said to have accepted an offer.
Reports are conflicting however, with some sources saying Neymar is happy at Barcelona and there is no chance the deal will happen, and others saying that he has agreed a deal and it’s close to completion.
There’s no doubting Neymar’s superstar status in world football. Just last season alone he scored 20 goals and gained 19 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions. He has also been likened to fellow countryman Pele for his elite skills and goalscoring abilities.
Is the deal happening?
Barcelona officials are confident that Neymar will not choose to leave. They believe the 25-year-old will reject advances from PSG, as he did last summer.
“Selling Neymar is not something the club would think about,” spokesman Josep Vives said at a press conference. “We are very calm. He is one of the most important players we have, we will not consider any offers we receive for him.”
The sources suggesting this deal could happen say the opposite. Esporte Interativo in Brazil say that Neymar has accepted a deal. The reports say he is unhappy about being in the shadow of Lionel Messi, and wants to link up with Brazil teammate Dani Alves who has moved to PSG this summer.
Would PSG pay?
The asking price is astronomical, and it is also conflicted on whether PSG are willing to pay. Some sources say they are happy to pay, others say it is out of the question. It has even been suggested that Marco Verratti, rated at £88million by his club, could be part of the deal.
There are conflicting reports about this transfer, but if it was to happen, it would shake the entire footballing world. Could Neymar possibly be on the move?
