Gianfranco Zola wants Chelsea to quickly put an end to speculation surrounding their manager, describing it as a difficult situation.
The Chelsea legend is one of the greatest players to have ever played in the Premier League, and has since taken up a number of roles in management. He has recently been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge as part of a potential new coaching set up led by fellow Italian, Maurizio Sarri.
The now deposed Napoli boss has been heavily linked with taking over as Chelsea’s new manager for a number of months, yet almost two months on from the end of last season, there has been no change.
Antonio Conte was highly expected to be sacked within days of leading the club to glory in the FA Cup final in May, but incredibly, is still in charge. Now, with just five weeks to go until the start of the new Premier League season, the Blues are yet to make a single signing in the transfer window, as confusion surrounding the managerial situation continues.
Now former Chelsea ace Gianfranco Zola has urged the club to move quickly in order to resolve it:
“I am in a very difficult situation as I am part of the speculation. I really hope whatever happens, that it happens quickly,” said Zola.
“At the moment you need to have a clear situation as quickly as possible.
“We are talking about two coaches that I respect a lot – Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri. For me to say more on this situation is difficult.”
Chelsea finished fifth in last season’s Premier League table, meaning they will have to settle for a season without Champions League football.
