Dwight Yorke has urged his former club Manchester United to ignore players at the World Cup, and sign Gareth Bale.
The Real Madrid winger has been heavily with a move to Manchester United for a number of years – even since his days as a Tottenham Hotspur player – but the this summer has seen speculation go into overdrive.
Bale firmly put himself in the shop window last month thanks to his stellar performance in the Champions League final, and his comments after it. The Welshman came off the bench to score a phenomenal overhead kick on the way lifting his fourth European title, before casting doubt in his future at the club due to a lack of game time.
Since those comments, reports linking Bale with a move to Old Trafford have been almost on a daily basis, and even though Zinedine Zidane’s departure from the European Champions has led to suggestions that the Welshman could now stay at the Bernabeu, Dwight Yorke has said that Bale would be the ‘perfect addition’ to Jose Mourinho’s side.
The former United striker told 888sport: “United and Jose don’t need to look at the World Cup. No player suits us more than Gareth Bale. Yes there will always be some exciting candidates to look at but Bale is someone who excites me.
“He is the right age, in his prime, and will be the perfect addition.”
