Willian warns Man City that Premier League title race will be ‘totally different’ next season

Chelsea attacker Willian has admitted that soon to be Premier League Champions Manchester City are a great team, but he has predicted that Pep Guardiola’s side will not have things so easy next season.

The Brazil international believes his own club and the other members of the top six Arsenal, Manchester United, Spurs and Liverpool will all come back stronger and push the Cityzens for the league title next season.

“Of course they continue to do very well this season,” Willian told The Mirror.

“Last season they did well as well. They have a great team. Great players. Quality players.”

“But the Premier League is very difficult to say that one team is going to dominate the next few years. I don’t think so. Next season will be totally different to this season.”

“Maybe they can win again but you never know because Chelsea are going to come back stronger for sure.

“You also have Liverpool, you have Tottenham, you have Manchester United, Arsenal — a lot of teams that can win the Premier League.”

Willian certainly has a point about teams struggling to dominate for a sustained period in the Premier League. Not since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man United side in 2008/2009 has a team won the Premier League in consecutive seasons.

In fact, with Chelsea now looking certain to finish outside of the Champions League qualification spots this campaign, it will mean that the last two times the Stamford Bridge club have won the league crown they have not even finished in the top four in the proceeding season.

Although it is highly unlikely that Man City will suffer such a slump next term, they will certainly have a battle on their hands to be crowned back-to-back Champions.
