Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has insisted that the Championship pace setters should not be favourites for their clash with rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
The Blades have started the season in fine form and are 3rd in the table with nine wins in 16 games.
However, despite their fine form, Wilder does not believe that they should begin the game as favourites for the Steel City Derby this weekend.
“These are games where we really should be going in as underdogs,” Wilder told his pre-match press conference.
“The only way people will view us as favourites is because of the points we have collected.
“Underdogs or favourites? Everybody will have their own opinion on that, but sometimes you have to look a bit deeper,” he said.
But, Wilder believes that his insistence that his side are underdogs is not a bad thing.
“When we played Hull City recently, they have got a tremendous amount of talent in that group and have invested heavily over the last three or four years.’’ He continued.
“You come up against big talented squads, who have spent a lot of money.
“If we are favourites, I don’t see any arrogance in us, or taking the foot of the gas. They are not allowed to and I don’t see it hindering us.”
The game kicks off this evening at Bramall Lane at 7:45pm tonight.
