West Ham’s Issa Diop says ‘its nice’ to hear Jose Mourinho praise

West Ham defender Issa Diop has said it is nice to hear Jose Mourinho lavish praise on him, although he is not going to let his compliments go to his head.

Diop moved to West Ham back in the summer for £22 million from Toulouse, and has gone on to quickly cement himself as a first team regular, making eight appearances so far and already netting his first goal for the Hammers.

He was part of the defence that recently kept Manchester United at bay at the London Stadium, as West Ham beat the inept Red Devils 3-1.

While the likes of Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Marco Arnautovic all impressed up front, United manager Jose Mourinho chose to lavish praise on Diop, describing him as a ‘monster’:

“Congratulations to the scout that found a 21-year-old kid Diop – a monster who dominated in the duels,” Mourinho told BT Sport after the game.

With the Premier League on its latest two-week sabbatical to allow international football to take centre stage once again, the defender has said it was nice to hear the Portuguese’s comments.

“Honestly, yes it’s nice but hey, he’s not my coach so that’s it,” Diop told La Depeche. “I keep my head on my shoulders and I stay myself.”
