West Ham want Amorim with Liverpool move unlikely

West Ham are hoping to launch an ambitious move to bring Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim to the club.

David Moyes is out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer and his position has come under pressure following Sunday’s 5-2 defeat to Crystal Palace. The Hammers are eighth in the Premier League table, though only the bottom three have conceded more than their 63 goals this season.

Moyes has been a decisive figure at the Hammers, despite winning the Europa Conference League last season. A pragmatic style of football has frustrated the fanbase and there are large sections of the West Ham support who want to see change.

Amorim would fit the bill for the East Londoners having impressed at Sporting. He led the club to a first league title in 19 years in 2020/21 and currently leads the Primeira Liga title race in pursuit of another crown. Sporting’s style of football is attractive in a fluid 3-4-3 formation and Amorim has been named as a coaching candidate for vacancies at Liverpool and Barcelona.

However, The Athletic are reporting that Liverpool looks an unlikely destination at this stage, as the Reds consider several candidates.

West Ham are hoping to capitalise with an ambitious move for the 39-year-old, and have made Amorim their leading target, while former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is also under consideration.
