Manuel Pellegrini says he he wants to beat Liverpool for West Ham’s gain primarily, but also as a Man City fan.
The Hammers go into Monday night’s clash with Liverpool on the back of a bad run of form, losing their last three games in all competitions while slipping down to 12th in the table.
Rectifying that poor form against the Reds will be a tall order for Manuel Pellegrini’s charges, who are up against a side who have lost just one Premier League game all season.
The Chilean manager has double the motivation to defeat the league leaders, as it is his former Manchester City side who are chasing them in the hunt for the title.
“If we win I will be very happy for our club first,” Pellegrini told his pre-match press conference.
“We need a good performance against the leaders.
“After that, if we can give a hand to Manchester City, it’s not our problem, but of course I am a fan of Manchester City also.”
Pellegrini was the manager in charge of City when they took advantage of Liverpool’s late season collapse in 2013-14, winning the club’s second Premier League title in the process.
