West Ham eye alternatives with Maguire deal in doubt

West Ham are considering alternatives to Harry Maguire amid concerns over the delay to defender’s move from Manchester United.

West Ham have agreed a deal to sign Maguire from Manchester United for a fee of £30m, but a deal has stalled as the centre-back seeks a payoff at Old Trafford.

Maguire has agreed personal terms with West Ham, though there are concerns within the club that the England international is unsure on the move.

The Guardian are reporting that there is also a feeling within West Ham’s recruitment team that the squad is in need of a central defender with more pace, leading to links to Bayer Leverkusen defenders Jonathan Tah and Odilon Kossounou

West Ham are expected to be one of the busiest clubs as the transfer deadline approaches as the Hammers look to reinvest the £105m brought in from Declan Rice’s sale to Arsenal.

David Moyes’ side have also received interest from Manchester City in the £80m-rated Lucas Paqueta and attacking midfield additions are a priority given Paqueta’s desire to move to the Etihad.

Jesse Lingard has been invited to train with the squad after his departure from Nottingham Forest. The free agent had a successful loan spell at West Ham in 2021, but turned down a move to the club in favour of Forest last summer.

West Ham are also interested in deals for Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus and Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer.
