Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger thinks that Alexis Sanchez has lost his confidence which is the reason behind his less than impressive form at Manchester United.
Sanchez swapped Arsenal for Manchester United back in January, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going in the opposite direction, although the Chilean has failed to replicate the form which saw him become one of the Premier League‘s biggest stars.
Having scored 80 goals in 166 appearances for the Gunners, in his 10 months at Old Trafford, the 29-year-old has hit the back of the net just four times.
One man who knows Sanchez pretty well is Arsene Wenger, who worked with the forward for three-and-a-half years at the Emirates, and the 69-year-old thinks that his troubled times are due to a lack of confidence:
“I believe he has lost confidence,” Wenger told beIN Sports. “The strength of Alexis Sanchez is to take initiative to dribble and to take people on.
“Those are the players who are most vulnerable when they lose confidence their game is based on that and having that feeling to take initiative, he has lost that slowly.
“Since the start of the season he had a high level of physical energy but he has lost that as well.
“Certainly he is refreshed now because Mourinho left him out for a while.”
Sanchez has started the last two games for United as a central striker, which has seen him put in more improved performances.
