Wenger thinks its ‘fair’ that Manchester United don’t pick Alexis Sanchez

Arsene Wenger isn’t surprised that Manchester United don’t pick Alexis Sanchez considering his current struggles.

The Chilean has had a miserable 12 months since swapping Arsenal for Manchester United in January 2018, where he has scored a meagre five goals in 37 appearances for the Red Devils.

Despite being the most highly paid player in the Premier League, he is yet to even show a glimmer of the quality that he displayed during his time at the Nou Camp and the Emirates, with Anthony Martial starting down the left in the majority of Manchester United’s games this season.

His latest disappointment came in yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League, with the United number 7 completing zero shots, zero key passes, zero crosses and zero dribbles in his 45 minute cameo against the French champions.

Having worked with Sanchez during his three-and-a-half years at the Emirates, Wenger said that he wasn’t surprised to see his former player struggling for game time.

“He [Sanchez] has lost his position. He plays in the same position as Martial,” Wenger told beIn Sports.

“And today, who would dispute that Martial is indispensable for Manchester United?

“That’s fair competition in my opinion.”
