Arsene Wenger has admitted that Olivier Giroud could leave Arsenal this month after speculation surrounding the Frenchman’s future.
Giroud was heavily linked with a move away in the summer, with Everton known to be extremely interested in his services as they looked to replace Romelu Lukaku. However the 31-year-old decided to stay and fight for his place at the Emirates, despite the arrival of club record signing, Alexandre Lacazette.
The forward has made 15 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring four goals, but has been restricted to just one start, prompting speculation once again of his potential departure.
He has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund as a make weight for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while reports in the last 24 hours have accredited Chelsea with having an interest as their hilarious search for a striker continues.
Asked if the striker has asked to leave the Emirates, Wenger replied:
“No. I have consistent exchanges with him.
“We speak about it a lot. He has played a lot of games and scored important goals. He is an important player and every player has a lot of respect for him.
However the Arsenal boss did go on to admit that Giroud can leave the club, but only if they can bring in a replacement.
“He will get more games and can only leave if someone else comes in.”
Wenger also admitted that while they are in the transfer market looking to bring in new faces, no transfers are close to being completed at the moment.
