Danny Welbeck is set to make Premier League history by completing his transfer from Brighton to Chelsea.
Welbeck is set to undergo a medical at Chelsea ahead of one of the shock deals of the summer, with Chelsea capturing the 35-year-old to add experience to their ranks.
The veteran forward scored 13 goals in the Premier League last season, the best return of his top-flight career, and will offer support to Joao Pedro in attack.
Welbeck will become only the eighth player in Premier League history to have played for three or more of the division’s ‘Big Six’ clubs (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur).
However, he’ll be the first player to have played for the trio of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea in the Premier League era.
Nicolas Anelka and Raheem Sterling hold the record for the most ‘Big Six’ teams represented, at four. The duo both played for Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City during their careers.
William Gallas, Daniel Sturridge, Yossi Benayoun, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor have also represented three ‘Big Six’ clubs in the Premier League.
