Pep Guardiola was delighted after he watched his side take down another top four team with a convincing 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss said he was really impressed with his side’s work without the ball, especially against a side who are usually so comfortable on the ball themselves. City constantly pressed the Spurs midfield and defence so quickly as they usually do, forcing them backwards and into mistakes.
Guardiola was quick to praise his rivals midfield, and said he had to change shape to stop their own qualities and usual comfort on the ball, a tactic which clearly worked well for him.
City’s win took their winning run to a new Premier League record of 16 consecutive victories, match a record he also set in La Liga with Barcelona. He praised his side’s adaptability and belief in his system to make it all possible, and held special praise for Kevin de Bruyne for his exceptional work rate.
