Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday after their midweek heroics against PSG at Anfield.
The Reds are at home, again, and the visitors this weekend are Mark Hughes’ Saints. Liverpool have made their best start to a Premier League season with five wins from their opening five games.
Speaking today, at Melwood, Jurgen Klopp was quizzed about issues such as the fitness of Roberto Firmino, Dejan Lovren, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The question was also raised about Mohamed Salah’s early-season form, as well as Danny Ings’ performances for Southampton, so far.
Liverpool won the corresponding fixture, 3-0, last season with a first-half brace from Salah followed up by a third strike from Philippe Coutinho, after the break.
Prior to last season, however, The Reds had struggled in recent meetings with Southampton. Klopp saw his team exit the League Cup at the semi-final stage in the 2016/17 season. Irish striker, Shane Long, scored a late winner at Anfield to finish Liverpool off with a 2-0 aggregate victory on that occasion.
However, this Liverpool outfit is a far different proposition and they will be eager to keep pace with Chelsea at the top of the table while maintaining a slender two-point advantage over title favourites, Manchester City.
Here is Klopp’s full pre-match press conference.
