They are the words that every Liverpool fan has been dreading to see, but Virgil van Dijk is reported to be a doubt for their Premier League clash against Leicester on Wednesday.
Having made the £75 million move from Southampton last January, Van Dijk’s influence on the Liverpool side has been immense, with the Reds having the best defence in the Premier League so far, conceding just 13 goals this season.
Liverpool currently sit on top of the table, having amassed a hugely impressive 60 points from their 23 games, and they are four points ahead of reigning Champions Man City, who many had as their pre-season favourites to reclaim their crown.
However, with City facing a struggling Newcastle tonight at St. James Park, that gap is likely to be cut to just one point, putting the pressure on the league leaders when they host Leicester 24 hours later.
Now, according to the Sun, defensive stalwart Van Dijk is a doubt for the fixture as he suffers with an illness, with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip set to be reunited in defence if he doesn’t recover in time.
