Aston Villa have confirmed they are in talks with Bayern Munich over a potential deal for Joao Palhinha, although no agreement has been reached for the midfielder.
Villa director of football operations Damian Viadagany confirmed the discussions to German publication Bild, while Sky in Germany reports that Bayern would prefer to sell the 31-year-old rather than sanction another loan.
“We are in talks, but there is currently no agreement,” Viadagany said Bild.
“If something should happen, it is always on the basis of the great respect we feel for FC Bayern.”
Palhinha joined Bayern from Fulham in 2024 but spent last season on loan at Tottenham. He now appears set for another move as Bayern consider his future.

Viadagany stressed the strong relationship between the two clubs while declining to provide further details on the negotiations.
“We are friendly clubs; our relationship with Max Eberl, Christoph Freund and all other responsible persons is excellent,” he said.
“Therefore, I cannot and do not want to comment on any further details.”
Palhinha established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading defensive midfielders during his time at Fulham before earning his move to Bayern.
Villa’s interest comes as Unai Emery continues to strengthen his squad, with the club assessing options in midfield ahead of the new season.
For now, however, there is no agreement between Villa and Bayern, with negotiations continuing over the Portugal international’s potential move to Villa Park.
