Gyokeres comments on potential future transfer amid Premier League links

Viktor Gyokeres has commented on his future at Sporting Clube de Portugal as rumours about a transfer to the Premier League persist.ย

The Sweden striker has attracted a lot of interest thanks to his exploits in Portugal, scoring 51 goals in 56 appearances since leaving Coventry City in a deal worth up to ยฃ21 million.

No player has scored more goals in 2024 than the 26-year-old, who has found the net 33 times in all competitions this calendar year.

Arsenal are the latest club to reportedly take an interest in Gyokeres, while Chelsea were said to be looking at potentially signing him last January.

Burnley, Brentford, Fulham, Leeds and Wolves were all linked with the forward when he was set to depart Coventry in 2023, while Everton were interested in the player two years ago.

Gyokeres, however, would not come cheap as the release clause in his contract is set at around โ‚ฌ100m (ยฃ85m) and Sporting are eager not to let him go for anything less than that.

Despite the possibility of joining a top club in the Premier League, the former Brighton man is content at his current and isn’t pushing for a move.

โ€œYes, the release clause into my contract is high but Iโ€™m happy at Sporting,” Gyokeres said (via Fabrizio Romano).

โ€œI had no problems when I had to stay here for one more season. My value is there and thatโ€™s it now, we will see when something happens.”

Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, who was linked with the Liverpool and West Ham jobs earlier this year, has warned clubs they will need to meet the release clause if they want to pry their star player away.

โ€œGyokeres is a great player and I think heโ€™s worth โ‚ฌ100 million,” he told CNN last week. “Thatโ€™s the price he has and we have to go ahead with it. Whoever wants to (sign him) will have to pay โ‚ฌ100 million.โ€
