‘Very appealing’ – Nagelsmann interested to take over at Spurs

Julian Nagelsmann is said to be ‘interested’ in becoming the next Tottenham manager.

Spurs opted to part ways with Antonio Conte last month following the Italian’s explosive rant, accusing the players of lacking commitment and fight following an inconsistent spell of results.

Conte’s assistant, Christian Stellini, was put in temporary charge of the club, though he has also since been shown the exit door after the humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle, with Spurs finding themselves 5-0 down at half-time in what was an embarrassing capitulation.

While Ryan Mason is in charge of first team affairs until the end of the season, search for the club’s next permanent manager is continuing, with a number of high profile names having been linked with the role.

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann was quickly named as one of the frontrunners, though Luis Enrique, Ruben Amorim and Maurico Pochettino have also been linked.

All of those names have also been linked with the vacant role across London at Chelsea, with former Spurs boss Pochettino expected to take over from Frank Lampard in the summer.

Julian Nagelsmann held talks with Chelsea regarding the role at Stamford Bridge, but eventually ruled himself out of the recruitment process.

However, according to a report in German publication Bild, the 35-year-old is said to find the the job at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium a ‘very appealing’ prospect.

They say that Nagelsmann was keen to take a break following his dismissal from Bayern Munich, but is ‘interested’ in taking the Spurs job in the summer.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph say that Nagelsmann is Spurs number one target, though warn that his appointment would be ‘the most expensive option’.

Officially, the former RB Leipzig boss was placed on gardening leave by Bayern, and the compensation to release him would be in excess of £10 million, while he would also command a hefty salary.

According to the report, Nagelsmann is also ‘adamant that he must feel he can win trophies and compete for top players in the transfer market’, while he is also said to be waiting to find out the identity of the club’s next director of football following the departure of Fabio Paratici.
