Robin van Persie has urged former side Manchester United to make a move for ‘goal machine’ Edinson Cavani this summer.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward is out-of-contract at the end of the season and has announced his intention to leave the French capital, Cavani having been strongly linked with moves to United, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid throughout the January transfer window.
The Uruguayan international has proven to be one of the most prolific goalscorers in European football over the past decade and is PSG’s all-time record goalscorer on 200 goals, though the 33-year-old will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season and has announced his desire for a new challenge.
Van Persie believes Cavani would be an ideal signing for his former side despite the forward’s advancing years, insisting the veteran is a proven source of goals as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks attacking reinforcements this summer.
“He’s very fit, he’s a proven goalscorer, a goal machine, he has proven it at Napoli, PSG and Uruguay.
“With him, if he starts, he will get you 25 goals a season. I’ve watched him play, I’ve played against him, he is like a proper goalscorer.
“He lives by scoring goals so I’d go for him.”
