Van Nistelrooy coy on Man United future amid Amorim deal

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been coy on his future at Manchester United amid Ruben Amorim’s imminent arrival as manager.

Van Nistelrooy has been placed in interim charge of the Red Devils following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on Monday. The Dutchman led the side to a 5-2 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, to book a quarter-final clash at Tottenham.

Manchester United have agreed a deal to bring Sporting Lisbon head coach Amorim to the club, though the 39-year-old will serve a notice period with the Portuguese champions.

Amorim is set to arrive in England after November’s international break with his first fixture in charge expected to be at Ipswich Town on November 24th.

Talks are ongoing to bring in several members of Amorim’s coaching staff at Sporting, leaving Van Nistelrooy’s position unclear.

The latter returned to Manchester United in the summer to join Ten Hag’s backroom staff and has said he is willing to help the club ‘in any capacity’ he is needed moving forward.

“I came here as an assistant, to help the club, and now in this role, Iโ€™m helping as long as Iโ€™m needed,” Van Nistelrooy told his post-match press conference following the win over Leicester.

“In the future, in any capacity, I am here to help the club further, to build towards the future. There are so many people around me who want the best for the club and that will never change. I think it’s important to focus on Sunday, and the league game against Chelsea. What the future holds, let’s wait on that.”
