Virgil Van Dijk has been voted as Liverpool’s player of the month for August, after Jurgen Klopp’s sides 100% start to their Premier League campaign.
The Holland captain has been in inspired form since moving to Anfield last January in a £75 million deal from Southampton and his leadership in defence has been key to the Reds conceding just one goal so far this season.
However, upon receiving his award Van Dijk was quick to praise the role of his teammates in Liverpool’s excellent start to the season.
“It’s my first one and I am very pleased to have won it,” he told Liverpool’s official website.
“But almost everyone in the team deserved it this month; everyone has been outstanding, giving their all, and you could see that in the results.
“I’m very happy we’re doing so well at the moment and we need to keep going. I am enjoying every bit of it, but that’s all credit to all of the players involved.
“It’s not only me and I would never take credit on my own. We do it all together and it starts on the training pitch.”
Oh how we yearn for the day when a Premier League player just completely ignore his media training when he collects his award and just comes out and says “Thanks, it’s deserved, I’ve been bloody brilliant after all.”
