Former Manchester United legend and one of TV’s grumpiest pundits Roy Keane has claimed that he would consider retiring if he had been part of the Roma side that capitulated so badly against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final first leg last Tuesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men exploited the Serie A side’s high defensive line time and time again at Anfield, eventually running out 5-2 winners to leave themselves in a commanding position going into the second leg in the Italian capital next Wednesday.
Speaking after the game Keane praised Liverpool for taking advantage of their opponents weaknesses, although as you can expect he wasted no time in laying into Roma for their lacklustre display.
“Roma will be no doubt better at home but Liverpool tore them to shreds and could have scored ten,”
“Pretty straightforward tactics: get the ball forward and let the attackers do the rest.”
“They were outstanding and I can’t see a way back for Roma.”
“They gave up after about an hour and downed tools. If I played like some of their defenders [Roma] did I would consider retiring from football. We can slag Roma off but Liverpool had to take advantage of that.”
