Tuchel offers update on Lukaku, Werner, Kovacic, Alonso and Mount ahead of Chelsea game with Burnley

Thomas Tuchel has offered an update on his Chelsea squad ahead of the league leader’s clash with Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.

Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner both remain absent with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively, though Christian Pulisic has returned to the squad after making just one league appearance so far this season.

Mateo Kovacic is also set to miss the clash with the Clarets at Stamford Bridge, however, whilst Marcos Alonso will not be included in the squad after sustaining an ankle problem during the midweek Champions League win at Malmo.

“No news for the match tomorrow for Romelu [Lukaku] of course and Timo [Werner] – both of them are out,” the Chelsea boss told reporters his pre-match press conference.

“Christian Pulisic is back with the group like he was in Malmo.

“Mateo Kovacic is out still so no news there and unfortunately Marcos Alonso injured himself in the very last minute during the Malmo match. He tried now to come out for training but the stress is too high on the ankle. Nothing big but it’s too painful at the moment so he’ll not be in the squad tomorrow.”

Tuchel also provided an update on Mason Mount, who has missed the club’s past two fixtures following complications over a wisdom tooth issue.

“It’s a bit of a tricky one,” he said. “He was ill. The reason was because of a wisdom tooth, he has a bit of an infection.

“He was back in training yesterday and today, he lost a bit of weight and he can not eat properly.

“Let’s see, he’s in the squad for tomorrow, he can play some minutes but we will need to wait for the reaction because it seems like proper treatment has to be done.”

Chelsea will be looking to secure an eighth consecutive victory in all competitions against Burnley tomorrow, as the west Londoners look to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League.

The visiting Clarets will hope to maintain the momentum of their first win of the season against Brentford last time out.
