Axel Tuanzebe has lavished praise on Harry Maguire and says the defender has had a ‘massive impact’ since his arrival at Manchester United.
The England international moved to Old Trafford in an £80m deal from Leicester during the summer, becoming the most expensive defender in football history and quickly establishing himself as a key figure in the plans of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 26-year-old’s impact was recognised as he was handed the Man Utd captaincy on a permanent basis following the mid-season departure of Ashley Young to Inter Milan, and Tuanzebe says the awarding of the armband to Maguire is a deserved accolade for a player who has swiftly garnered the respect of both his manager and teammates.
“Massive respect to him for getting the captaincy,” Tuanzebe told United’s official website.
“For me, I don’t think it is ever about how long you have been somewhere. It is the impact you give and the time you spend with the lads.
“He’s had a massive impact on the club, he has been a real example and has managed to lead the team.
“We are improving. We are a young side and given time, I think we will be very strong and contending for real titles. But I just want to send massive congratulations to Harry, because I think he deserves it with the impact that he’s given to the club.”
