England international Kieran Trippier has said that Gary Neville is one of the best ever defenders.
The Spurs defender, who started in England’s World Cup win against Tunisia on Monday, was speaking to ITV about his childhood heroes, and picked out his fellow right-back as one of the best, describing him as a ‘fantastic player’:
“It was Gary Neville,” he said.
“He is a Bury lad as well.
“He was a fantastic player for Manchester United and England and he’s won numerous trophies.
“He’s won numerous trophies, he picked and chose when to go forwards and he was an excellent defender.
“Probably one of the best.
“I learned a lot off Gary Neville as an all-round player and as a leader.
“He’s the one player that I did really look up to.”
Neville made 602 appearances for United as well as earning 85 caps for England over the course of his 19 year career.
