Tottenham vs Manchester City – Premier League Match Preview

Tottenham take on Manchester City in the Premier League this evening in a clash of huge consequence in race for the title and top four.

Spurs must win to remain in contention for Champions League qualification, while only three points will be enough for Manchester City to keep the destination of the title in their own hands.

Here’s all you need to know about a huge clash in North London.

The wheels have fallen off in Tottenham’s push for Champions League qualification and a run of four consecutive defeats has left Ange Postecoglou’s side in need of a big turnaround heading into the final week of the campaign.

With a five-point gap to Aston Villa in the top four, Spurs need maximum points from their final two games against City (H) and Sheffield United (A), and Villa to lose at Crystal Palace on the final day, to finish in the top-four finish.

Spurs ended their losing run with a 2-1 win over Burnley at the weekend, a clash that saw the North Londoners come from behind with Micky van de Ven bursting through to score the winner.

Postecoglou insists his team will go all out to win this evening, despite a positive result handing the title initiative to arch-rivals Arsenal. The focus for him, as ever, is the improvement of his team and securing Champions League qualification would be a huge boost ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester City have clicked into gear across the run-in, as they so often do. Pep Guardiola’s team are unbeaten in the Premier League since December and have won seven straight games, scoring 28 goals in the process.

The Citizens swatted Fulham aside 4-0 at the weekend, making a mockery of pre-game predictions that the trip to West London for the lunchtime kick-off could cause problems. Josko Gvardiol scored twice to continue his incredible recent record around goal with the full-back having now netted five times in his last seven appearances in all competitions.

City need to win to move back to the top ahead of their final game against West Ham at the Etihad. A point would move them level on points with leaders Arsenal, though the champions have an inferior goal difference. Guardiola’s side have never won a league game, or scored a goal, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester City, FA Cup, 26/01/2024

Manchester City finally ended their curse at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to progress in the FA Cup fourth round in January. The Citizens’ poor record at the ground is well-documented with all five league meetings having ended in defeat without scoring, but Nathan Ake’s late goal sent the holders through in cup competition.

City were dominant throughout but looked likely to settle for a replay as time ticked on, until Ake bundled in from a set-piece in the 88th minute after Guglielmo Vicario failed to hold Kevin de Bruyne’s corner kick.
