Tottenham vs Chelsea – Premier League Match Preview

Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur face a huge test this weekend, hosting London rivals Chelsea under former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs’ start to the season under Ange Postecoglou has thrown up quite the shock; this London derby against a Chelsea side that has shown promise of late will be a real test of their title credentials.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of Monday’s match.

Tottenham vs Chelsea – Premier League Match Preview

Tottenham: DWWWW

After missing out on European football last season, Tottenham have been the league’s surprise package so far, with Postecoglou transforming the side.

Despite losing club legend Harry Kane in the summer, Spurs have picked up 25 points from a possible 27 since their opening day draw at Brentford.

Since then, the only time they dropped points came in a 2-2 North London derby draw away at title contenders Arsenal.

Still boasting a 100% home record, the Lilywhites have won each of their last four games, conceding just twice in the process.

Last time out against Crystal Palace, club captain Heung-Min Son scored his eighth goal of the season. He is one of many players loving life under Postecoglou; new signings James Maddison and Micky Van de Ven are particularly thriving.

Chelsea: WWDLW

Chelsea, meanwhile, sit 11th in the league, having picked up 12 points from the first 10 matches.

Recent wins over Brighton (Carabao Cup), Fulham and Burnley, and a 2-2 draw with Arsenal were evidence that things are starting to click in a new era for the Blues under Pochettino.

But a 2-0 home defeat to fellow west London side Brentford last week saw the same old problems resurface.

Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher are enjoying strong seasons, while Levi Colwill and Thiago Silva are helping Chelsea stay defensively sound.

However, summer signing Nicolas Jackson has scored just twice in nine appearances, with the club’s lack of a clinical striker proving to be an issue.

Sterling got on the scoresheet in midweek as the Blues advanced past Blackburn with a 2-0 win to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. The Stamford Bridge faithful will be hoping the team bring those shooting boots to north London on Monday.

Last Meeting

Tottenham 2-0 Chelsea, February 26th 2023

There were two different bosses in the dugouts the last time these sides met.

A fiery encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Cristian Stellini’s Spurs take all three points from Graham Potter’s Chelsea.

Oliver Skipp opened the scoring with a stunner from range that cannoned in off the crossbar early in the second half – his first Tottenham goal.

With minutes to play, Harry Kane sealed the win for the hosts, tapping home at the far post following a corner.
