Tottenham have ‘opened talks’ with Nice over the potential signing of centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.
Ange Postecoglou has made clear his intention to sign a new central defender in the January transfer window, with Spurs short of defensive options at present. Micky van de Ven is currently sidelined with a hamstring issue, leaving full-back Ben Davies to deputise at centre-back for recent fixtures.
Todibo has been regularly watched by a number of Premier League clubs in recent months and Spurs have now opened discussions over a deal.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Spurs have spoken to the player’s camp to gauge interest in a Premier League move, though Nice are reluctant to sanction his sale mid-season.
The 24-year-old ranks in the top eight percent of defenders in Europe’s top five leagues for attempted passes, successful take-ons and tackles across the last 12 months.
Todibo made his senior debut for France in September and is understood to want assurances over his role to move in the January transfer window, as he looks to earn a place in the squad for Euro 2024.
Manchester United have also tracked his progress with the defender having been on the Red Devils’ centre-back shortlist since June.
