Tottenham’s Todibo move close to ‘collapse’

Tottenham’s move to sign Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice is close to collapsing after negotiations with the French side failed to progress quickly.

Spurs are without first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at present and are keen to bring in reinforcements early in the January transfer window, but a failure to make progress in talks with Nice has led the North Londoners to look at alternatives.

Todibo, who has also reportedly been tracked by Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle, was viewed as the club’s top target heading into January, having emerged as one of the most progressive central defenders in Ligue 1.

The 24-year-old, who ranks in the top six percent of defenders in Europe’s top five leagues for attempted passes, successful take-ons and tackles per 90 minutes across the last 12 months, made his senior international debut for France earlier this year.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Spurs have turned their attention to Genoa defender Radu Dragusin. The 21-year-old is keen on the move to Ange Postecoglou’s side and Spurs are set to submit an opening verbal bid.

The Romania international impressed as Genoa were promoted to Serie A last season and ranks third in Italy’s top division for clearances and aerials won this season.
