Tottenham confirm appointment of Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham have confirmed the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the club’s new head coach.

Postecoglou has signed a four-year contract with the north Londoners and becomes the first Australian to take charge of a Premier League side.

The 57-year-old emerged as a leading contender for the role after two successful seasons at Celtic, in which he won five trophies.

Postecoglou led Celtic to a domestic treble last season and has won admirers for an attractive brand of football in Scotland.

He replaces Antonio Conte as permanent manager at Spurs and will look to rebuild the side following the club’s lowest league finish since 2008/09.

Postecoglou had spells in charge of teams including Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory, Australia and Yokohama F. Marinos before his move to Celtic in 2021.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy expressed his excitement at the appointment and believes Postecoglou will bring an ‘attacking style of play’ to Spurs.

“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play,” he told the club’s official website.

“He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”
